Art Blakey Big Band (also called Art Blakey's Big Band and Art Blakey and his Drivin' Big Band) is an album by drummer Art Blakey recorded in late 1957 and originally released on the Bethlehem label. It differs from typical Art Blakey releases as his regular quintet was expanded to form a big band for these arrangements.

Featuring the Classic Quartet – John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones – and recorded at the end of a two-week run at Birdland, the music on this album represents one of the most influential groups in music history both performing in a musical style it had perfected and reaching in new, exploratory directions that were to affect the trajectory of jazz. But even if it was of lesser sound quality, the chance for Coltrane fans (like me) to hear this great band playing in the studio, working through untitled pieces and four short versions of "Impressions" makes this release something worth owning. The untitled originals especially so. I am a huge fan of every period of Coltrane's music, but more so of his last music from 1965 til his death.

Reissued on CD as John Coltrane: The Lee Kraft Sessions). The selected track Tippin' features terrifyingly fast tenor fingering from one young John Coltrane

Featuring a small combo of 3 saxes, trumpet and trombone interspersed with solid hits from the full ensemble, this medium swinger is a great showcase for contest or festival. Includes solos for alto sax and trumpet. Impressions John Coltrane/arr. Mike Tomaro With its modal chord structure, this Coltrane classic is a great solo vehicle within the small band setting.
