Storm of the Light's Bane is the second full-length album by the Swedish black metal band Dissection. The album was released on November 17, 1995 by Nuclear Blast Records. This would be the band's last full-length album before Nödtveidt's 1997 incarceration for the felony murder of Josef ben Meddour. It would not be until 2006 that they would release their third and final album Reinkaos, which was followed by Jon Nödtveidt's suicide and the breakup of the band.

At its core, The Downward Spiral is an unflinching concept album that details falling down the rabbit hole of despair – a narrative as impressive as its genre-defying, era-defining music. With a willingness to embrace man’s internal conflict between spite and vulnerability; crippling feelings of isolation and helplessness; the futility of fighting anything when the world is an unmovable heap of crap versus the defiance of defeat (the repetition of the line Nothing can stop me now throughout the album pushes that front and centre), The Downward Spiral confronts those. He’s been doing that since the beginning and he’s still doing it to a world-class standard today, but through the hard-hitting sloganeering of I’ve got no soul to sell, I want to f k you like an animal and the gut-wrenching Everyone I know goes away in the end, The Downward Spiral will always be the. mainstream’s NIN album.
When the album was first released, I wasn't concerned with any technological achievements Trent Reznor may have been conjuring- I was too distracted by his concepts of fucking like animals, god being dead (and no one caring), and I am a big man yesIam. Sure, NIN might have provided a perfect dose of loud guitars and screaming to score my melodramatic years, but what most drew me to collect Halos was the atmosphere: fake snuff film videos, drummer microphone injuries, the Sharon Tate murder house, and lyrical self-mutilation that made Cobain sound like Vedder. I've always preferred "Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now)" from the excellent Further Down the Spiral EP to the album version. The remix replaced the original's jazzy sparseness with a graveyard of broken breakbeats. Closer to God" and "All the Pigs, All Lined Up" confirm two of my above appraisals of Downward Spiral album tracks.
