This is not an album by the Modfather, or the high priest of dadrock. This is an album by the Paul Weller who has spent much of the last 30 years straying outside his comfort zone, and this is his White Album, a sprawling, epic and compelling song-cycle that channels a century of influences into one exhausting 21-track album
22 Dreams (2xCD, Album, Dlx, Unofficial, Dig). Polydor (2), Polydor (2). 2008 308-2864, YX 0209. 22 Dreams (CD, Album, Promo).
Paul Weller is Paul Weller's first solo album, released in 1992. After disbanding The Style Council and leaving label Polydor in 1989, Weller formed The Paul Weller Movement in 1990, releasing a single, "Into Tomorrow", on his own Freedom High record label, in October 1991. Its success - reaching in the UK chart - led to Weller being offered a new record deal with Go! Discs, and the resulting album was released on 1 September 1992, reaching on the UK album chart.
1. Light Nights Lyrics.
2008 release, Paul Weller's ninth solo studio album in an amazing 30 year career that saw him front The Jam and The Style Council. After 1995's & Road' Weller albums had started to sound very similar. They were often very good but they lacked that extra spark. 22 Dreams is more ambitious than his recent releases. He experiments with new instruments, different sounds and includes a number of guest musicians. It is an album that grows on you.
Paul Weller's done all that. Which means that with 22 Dreams he's free to go wherever he will. And he does just that. Joined by producer/arranger Simon Dine as well as regular cohort guitarist, Steve Cradock, the two keywords to this album must be 'variety' and (gasp) 'fun'. Yes, Woking's finest son seems to have loosened up and just let the tape roll. The result is a bucolic joyride through his strengths and some very new territory indeed.
Paul Weller, 22 Dreams. The first sign that something markedly different is up comes with Weller's ninth solo album. Echoes Around the Sun is a single so strange and gripping that it's almost impossible to believe the dread hand of Noel Gallagher was involved. But apparently he and Gem Archer were responsible for the backing, a grinding Stooges riff overlaid with corrosively distorted drums, bursts of morse code-like feedback, melodramatic strings and a crashing piano. After disbanding The Style Council and leaving label Polydor in 1989, Weller formed The Paul Weller Movement in 1990, releasing a single, Into Tomorrow, on his own Freedom High record label, in October 1991. darkness gone I fell in love with the morning sun I had 22 dreams last night And you were in 21 That?s enough for a lifetime of dreams That?s enough for anyone 22, 22, 22, 22 22, 22, 22, 22 22, 22, 22, 22 Just to save my soul Just to save my soul Just to save my soul.
