Peggy Sue have a thing about voices. The Brighton trio describe their fourth LP, ‘Choir of Echoes’, as ‘an album about singing. About losing your voice and finding it again. ’ As wistful and airy-fairy as this all sounds, it makes a spot-on kind of sense as the 13 songs on ‘Choir of Echoes’ unfold. Peggy Sue’s two vocalists, Rosa Slade and Katy Young, have always made their impeccable harmonies central to the band’s identity. Since the group’s early days, when they were called Peggy Sue And The Pirates and supported Mumford & Sons, Slade and Young have displayed a deft ability to marry their voices in a unique way that allows each to shine and both to blend
Even on their debut album, Fossils and Other Phantoms, they were too unpredictable and edgy to fit in with more lucratively easy-to-read acts like Mumford & Sons, and the band's turn toward moody rock on their second album, Acrobats, felt like a reflection of this. Three years after that album's release, Peggy Sue seem more comfortable with their folky past as well as their indie pop flirtations, and they balance all the aspects of their music on Choir of Echoes with more flair than they've shown in some time.

British alt-rock group Peggy Sue wrote and demoed the songs for their latest album, Choir of Echoes, in their North London practice space before going into the famed Rockfield Studios in Wales to record with engineer/producer Jimmy Robertson. We used the room called the Quadrangle, Robertson says. It’s a long stone farm building that houses the studio, and it’s partitioned in four parts: At the back is a drum room, about 6-by-6 square meters. Next to that is a large, carpeted live room about twice that length; in here we had both guitars, and various guitar amps.
Peggy Sue's debut album, Fossils and Other Phantoms, was one of 2010's most unfairly ignored records. On it they glanced back on their quite hefty Myspace-era discography and took it a step further with a groundwork of effective vocal harmonies, guitars and drums. Follow-up, Acrobats, came out a year later and built on the sonics of its predecessor, adding a touch more darkness to the palette and cementing the identifying markers of the trio's style
