Nick Edwards (2). Plekzationz ‎(2xLP, Album). Now that he's done an album under his own name, the set is complete. This may or may not have been the intended end result but when played together, these two releases form a cohesive whole which is something splendid indeed. If the aforementioned album was a tour of a deserted facility which eerily clings to life, then Plekzationz would be the vitriolic material which this auditory reactor was burnishing; make no mistake about it, this new outing is one that gets quite unconventional and earns high marks (sic) for the exploratory nature it presents.

The album certainly plumbs the darker, knottier depths of Edwards' soundworld. Drawing on the experimentalism of the Radiophonic Workshop and the shoestring avant-gardism of early dub reggae, Plekzationz is an unremittingly dense, challenging listen.

Edwards here proves that he knows exactly when to recede a sound and when to let one linger, when to abruptly spike a pitch and when to drown it in phase. Or consider a donation? Track List. Chance Meets Causality Uptown. No) Escape from '79. Inside the Analog Continuum.

Nick Edwards may not have been incarnated in midair, but his approach to Plekzationz is similar to the pensive experiences that the floating man might endure. The recording process expanded on results conjured through subliminal shifts and reflection in a space void of exterior influence or distraction: a windowless studio that held little more than a trademark Ekdahl Moisturizer, Danelectro Reel Echo pedals, and an abundance of analog recording equipment used to export non-cognitive contemplation. The intrepid nature and ravenous clamor of the album are all part of what makes listening to it such a wildly subfusc and dramatically claustrophobic experience. Despite the length and depth of each piece, there is very little room to relax - the effects are intoxicating, oneiric.

Nick Edwards – Plekzationz. This seems chunky and real compared to the other Ekoplekz releases. It’s out there, in all senses but it also feels like something of an end, like Nick Edwards is drawing a line, er, under the sand; it’s like a statement of where he’s been and how far he’s come. It’s ambient in the right way, in a Conrad Schnitzler way; not drifting, never still but beautifully flitting. Probably my favourite single Ekoplekz thing. A Pedant’s Progress finishes the album off and, for me, this calls to mind Throbbing Gristle’s Journey Through A Body. Coming at the end of the album is a little like being punched in the face; it’s a different headspace entirely and I’m not there yet. It’s not noisy, as such, but it’s very difficult to get a grip o. found my attention wandering a little; rejecting it.
