At the end of the recital of melodies comes the only glimpse on these CDs of Crespin's delicious sense of humour, in two of Canteloube's Auvergne songs, Lo fiolaire and Lou coucut, then best of all Roussel's Coeur en peril and Sauget's Berceuse creole-a favourite encore. The fourth CD is a bit of a rag-bag, extracts from three selections of opera highlights.

Recording by EMI – Crespin, Chauvet, cond. Courtesy Warner Classics. Hylas, a young Trojan sailor, longs for his homeland, but most of the Trojans are impatient to set sail for Italy. Aeneas has told Dido he must leave, but, still passionately in love, he dreads the final farewell. Dido is enraged and in despair at the reality of Aeneas’ leaving.

In a Berlioz, Schubert or Poulenc recital, the French lioness live. Born in Marseille in 1927, Régine Crespin finally succumbed to illness on July. Although her parents thought of a career as a pharmacist, Crespin joins the Paris Opera. The woman from Marseille vanquishes with her singing: she captivates Wieland Wagner who hires her at Bayreuth and Karajan who takes her on for Salzburg. We see her in 1965 during a recital in Paris, where she has an appointment with Berlioz: with Marguerite from The Damnation of Faust, The Spectre of the Rose, Summer Nights and Didon in the Trojans, she easily convinces us that it is no coincidence that he became her favourite composer.

Redirected from Les troyens). Les Troyens (in English: The Trojans) is a French grand opera in five acts by Hector Berlioz. The libretto was written by Berlioz himself from Virgil's epic poem the Aeneid; the score was composed between 1856 and 1858. Les Troyens is Berlioz's most ambitious work, the summation of his entire artistic career, but he did not live to see it performed in its entirety.
