Winter Kolednica, an album of carols (kolednice) from the Slovenian traditions, which are remarkably well-preserved given the centuries of possible influence from their neighbors. The works are primarily winter carols (from Christmas, New Years, the traditional pig slaughter, the Epiphany, and Candlemas), with a number of short instrumentals and spoken greetings and such interspersed here and there between the main tracks. All works are furnished by the Slovenian Academy's Institute of Ethnomusicology archives.

ArchivesHoliday Albums; ''WINTER KOLEDNICA: SEASONAL CAROLS FROM SLOVENIA''. Slovenia, in central Europe, has held on to two kinds of unaccompanied seasonal songs: narrative songs so rhythmic they could be Slovene hip-hop, and choral songs declaimed in major-key harmonies, both originally sung by groups of English carolers.

I know very little about Slovenia, and I love Christmas music, so I bought this CD mostly out of curiosity. It is mostly historical recordings made in the 20th century.

Winter Carols is the sixth studio album by the group Blackmore's Night, released in the United Kingdom on October, 2006, and in the United States on November 7, 2006. It is a Christmas themed album. The cover artwork for this album, painted by Karsten Topelmann, is an adaptation of a street in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany, in line with the band's heavy Renaissance influence. The same street is portrayed in the cover of Blackmore's Night's second studio album, Under a Violet Moon
