Understandably, Austin's Trail of Dead didn't have a fucking clue what to do for a follow-up. On 2003's The Secret of Elena's Tomb EP, they tried reprising ST&C; ("All St. Day"), reverted to their early days as a Sonic Youth cover band ("Mach Schau"), and even turned in a poor man's "Iris" ("Counting Off the Days"). One such manifesto came packaged with promo copies of Worlds Apart, in fact, as if Keely could convince us to ignore the fact that "The Summer of '91" sounds like the Counting Crows, "Let It Drive" sounds like the Gin Blossoms, "The Rest Will Follow" sounds like Bright Eyes, "All White" sounds like Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie, and the verse melody of "Caterwaul".

Worlds Apart is the fourth studio album b. .And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. It was released on January 25, 2005 by Interscope Records and reached on the UK Albums Chart. The album's first single, "The Rest Will Follow", was played on college radio and on some alternative stations throughout America. Caterwaul" also received some airplay.

Tonight we repeat the chaos playing ‘Madonna’ at sbarlbc in Long Beach. They fell off so very, very hard after this album, and it’s a damn shame, because this is a fine product. The copper shades of a morning Distant lights beckon & fade Unwritten songs of another day. I fear that you would never be Every song in the world for me I took your hand, led you astray You cursed the worlds I longed to save. Is heaven to you a perfect place? The look of sorrow on a sufferer’s face? A field of lives to sow and reap That some of us will never see. Why is it I don’t feel the same? Are my longings to be blamed For not seeing heaven like you would see; Why is a song a world for me?
