In the three years before their next record, CHAPPO toured, including multiple runs with the Flaming Lips; Colwell, who had produced their first two albums, left the band; and the remaining members went on hiatus following the unrelated, untimely deaths of Chappo's good friend and Feddock's son. Deciding they wanted to continue making music together, the trio eventually regrouped and headed to San Francisco to record with John Vanderslice at his analog studio, Tiny Telephone
