Spiral Deluxe is a band led by Jeff Mills. Initially formed for the performances in Japan (Tokyo,Kobe) and released Kobe Sessions EP (AX070) last year, they gathered again in October 2016 for European tour, when they named themselves as Spiral Deluxe. The upcoming record is live recordings from that tour and will be our 2nd series of Axis Audiophile Series with HD sound.

It's rather special, all told, with each of the four original tracks being laid down in one take at Faber Studios in Paris. Initially Formed For The Performances In Japan (tokyo/kobe) And Released Kobe Sessions Ep (ax070) Last Year, They Gathered Again In October 2016 For European Tour, When They Named Themselves As Spiral Deluxe.

And Spiral Deluxe, his four-piece jazz outfit, is just one of them. The band’s first EP, Kobe Session, was recorded in Kobe, Japan before the band even had a name. Their second, Tathata, was made up of live recordings in Italy and France. The band released their third EP, Voodoo Magic, last month. Voodoo Magic came about when a gig in Paris fell through in late 2016 and the band decided to bunker down in Paris’ famed Studios Ferber instead. The first unofficial Spiral Deluxe performance happened during Mills’ residency at The Louvre in 2015, where he had artistic carte blanche in the museum for four months. But the idea had been germinating in Mills’ head for much longer. I was thinking, why is there no band like this in electronic music?

Jeff Mills's band, Spiral Deluxe, has a new EP on the way. The improvised electronic jazz quartet consists of Mills on drum machine and percussion, Gerald Mitchell on keyboards, Yumiko Ohno on Moog synthesiser and Kenji "Jino" Hino on bass guitar and vocals. Tathata is a three-track release pressed on vinyl from 32 bit/48kHz digital files, and launches a new range of vinyl releases called the Axis Audiophile Series. It follows the group's Kobe Session EP, released as Jino, Ohno, Mitchell, Mills back in 2016, and a spate of live gigs in France, Italy and Japan.

Tathata follows their 2016 project, the Kobe Session EP. More information is sure to come, but for now, the group have shows planned in France
