Europe '72 is a live triple album by the Grateful Dead, released in November 1972. It covers the band's tour of Western Europe in April and May that year, and showcases live favourites, extended improvisations and several new songs including "Jack Straw" and "Brown Eyed Women". The album was the first to include pianist Keith Godchaux and his wife, Donna Jean Godchaux, and the last to feature founding member Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, who died shortly after its release.

The Grateful Dead commemorated their first extended European tour with an extravagant triple-LP set appropriately enough titled Europe '72. This collection is fashioned in much the same way as their previous release - which had also been a live multi-disc affair. With the additional album the band was able to again incorporate some of their exceedingly stretched-out instrumental improvisations - titled "Epilogue" and "Prelude" here. Since their last outing, the group had expanded to include the husband-and-wife team of Keith Godchaux (keyboards) and Donna Jean Godchaux (vocals).

Album · 2011 · 20 Songs. The original Europe '72 release stands as one of the Dead's most magical live albums. This second helping from the same tour dares to improve upon the wheel, and shockingly succeeds; between the crackling energy of the rocking "Bertha," a near-death Pigpen getting some of his last licks in on the gritty "Next Time You See Me," and the freewheeling acid-rock exploration of a 30-minute "The Other One," this sequel is every bit as vital. as Vol. 1. Europe '72, Vol. 2 Grateful Dead.
