The Very Best of Talk Talk is the most comprehensive retrospective assembled on the synth group to date, following the band from its new wave origins to its latter-day atmospheric new age recordings.

First released as "Talk Talk The Collection" in 2000, further versions of the album with the same track list include The Collection (2003), It's My Life: The Collection (2001) and The Ultra Selection (2001). As with all of the band's EMI compilations until 2013, the album was not a band sanctioned release. Natural History, The Very Best of Talk Talk is a 1990 greatest hits album by Talk Talk. If youīre curious about how Talk Talk sounds this is a good introduction to their music. Just be sure to get their best album Laughing Stock as well. The non-album song 'My Foolish Friend' (1983) already shows some improvement in the songwriting, and the mostly outdoor video filled with working class misery stands better multiple viewings. Then we enter the finer sounds of the 2nd album It's My Life (1984). The video for 'Such a Shame' features Hollis in black and bright orange clothes, standing in the middle of the screen against minimalistic background for the most of the time, opening his big mouth very wide in playback singing and smiling almost disturbingly.

Talk Talk went from being New Romantic clones to experimental jazz-esque pioneers in the space of less than 7 years - as recorded here. The bonus of having their (frankly excellent, if mildly disturbing) videos finally on DVD makes this an utterly essential, and extremely good value purchase. Most are directed by Tim Pope, who focussed on great ideas and mood, rather than special effects  . Natural History is a must for all fans of Talk Talk, and those who appreciate beautiful, quality music.
