Ankle Deep was the first CD released on the small but esteemed twee label Harriet Records, and was released overseas on vinyl by the like-minded Little Teddy label. Wimp Factor 14 has been described as chamber pop, and at times the group's guitar-based, indie pop album resembles such a thing - the tempos are generally relaxed and the guitars are seldom distorted, but the group has more of a sense of humor than that label implies. In general, Ankle Deep is stronger and more accomplished than Wimp Factor 14's singles, which were usually at least good.
