Telluride Bluegrass Festival is an annual music festival in Telluride, Colorado hosted by Planet Bluegrass. Although traditionally the festival focuses on bluegrass music, it often features music from a variety of related genres. The town of Telluride had for many years held a Fourth of July Celebration which had its roots in the early mining days of Telluride, when miners would come from down from the mountains to party and meet up with old friends and meet some women

The words "Telluride Bluegrass Festival" may fool you into thinking that this is simply a bluegrass or newgrass band, but in reality, New Monsoon are a multifaceted sonic storm that incorporates more stylistic influences than any band I know to be touring today (with the possible exceptions of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and The Mars Volta). The acoustic and electric energies of rock and bluegrass are incorporated by the fiery string work of Jeff Miller and Bo Carper. The three piece percussion section provides a sophisticated world rock sound

The Telluride Bluegrass and Country Festival is defined by its Colorado location, nestled in a box canyon in the San Juan Mountains with only one road in. People have been traveling to the four-day festival for 43 years, drawn by campground picks, a family reunion vibe and a lineup that is never exclusively country or bluegrass. String music dominates, but genre outliers ensure creativity runs high throughout the weekend.
