Give me ever the years you wept inside when cold All the sins and secrets never cried All the dreams you kept and the tears you sold Give me Give me ever and.
The band's next single, 1984's "Body and Soul", became their first charting effort in the UK when it reached number 46. Three more singles were released before the band reached number 14 on the UK Albums Chart with their debut album, First and Last and Always, which was released in March 1985. The Sisters of Mercy at the Ritz in NYC Photo by Greg Fasolino. After a couple of concerts in New York, the sessions at the Genetic Studios began. These sessions were meant to put the final touches on the record, but were fraught with turmoil caused by insomnia, amphetamine use, and hallucinations; plus they were interrupted by several festival dates. And Marx would indeed Walk Away after appearing live with the band for the last time on the television program The Old Grey Whistle Test on April 2nd, 1985. Marx would not show up at a concert scheduled at Royal Albert Hall on his birthday (June 18th). The Royal Albert Hall concert was the last nail in the coffin for this incarnation of The Sisters of Mercy, with Wayne Hussey leaving shortly after.
