Primary Transmission. Listen to Primary Transmission in full in the this site app. Play on this site. 2007 Red Grape Records.
Along with Broadcaster (the performance name of Lewis Atkinson), he has taken samples of the original voices and mixed them not with folk songs but with dance beats. There's no longer the same sense of narrative, but tracks such as Loneliness (featuring the voices of 60s teenagers) or Johnny (with railwaymen discussing a 1957 train crash) are unexpectedly poignant. It's a brave idea - and will hopefully lead to renewed interest in the original programmes.
Primary Transmission maintains the integrity and humour of the original recordings and, with a nod to Fatboy Slim and Moby, offers a unique interpretation that is moving, haunting and very addictive.
